Dog days of summer...

Those hot steamy days are finally here! I have been very remiss in updating my blog, so, this is going to be a biggie! I have some upcoming news, so, keep an eye out on here!

I'll start with the most recent, a trip to Resaca, GA to photograph Justin Smithey's lovely Kennels in the Country. I could happily live in with the dogs in those kennels! Wow! Beautiful!

Then to the Gray, TN show. I was hired to do portraits of a multi generations of whippets. Pawley is 14 years young, was winners bitch and best puppy at the 1996 American Whippet club national and has produced beautiful babies, who themselves have been beautiful producers. She is pictured with Calvin Perry, of Appraxin kennels, who was her breeder, Kitty Williams of Wilhaus whippets who is her owner and also the breeder of the progeny. Also pictured are the lucky owners, the Dailey's,who own Anson and Amy who owns Tyler.

We can't forget McGuire's Momma and sister's visit. McGuire is a Pawley granddaughter as Princess is a Pawley daughter. They had fun lounging on our couches and Taylor was thrilled to have them sleep with him

It must be spring!

An adorable little baby is in the flowerpot! Woods was probably the cutest little baby I have ever seen. He was happy and laughed the whole time! Watch the video, as every photo is incredibly adorable. I'll just put a few up to see :)

Honoring Sgt. Michael H Ferschke Jr

I was asked to photograph the dedication ceremony of the Knoxville MEPS ceremony room. Sgt Michael H Ferschke Jr was killed in action August 10th, 2008. I am honored to have been asked to capture this event for the family and for the Knoxville MEPS
It was a beautiful ceremony and wonderful to see so many come out to honor Micheal and his sacrifice to our country.

It touched me deeply and if you would like to read more on Michael, there are articles online. I listed a few below

What I want to be when I grow up.....

I am running up on 40 fast. July 15 to be exact. My gray hair is colored to hide it and I have reflected on where to take my professional life. It makes me laugh when I think I am going to be 40 and still want to grow up :) I guess I just won't.

Why am I writing this? Because I believe I have come to some clarity in my life. At least in my photographic life. Many know I started as an equine sports photographer a few years ago. I loved that. It was a bunch of fun but, the long weekends made it difficult for me. I still have it and can still hit that perfect point over the fence in one shot consistently. (I tested this out at River Glen a few weeks ago)

I moved into equine portraits then dog portraits as time went on. I have added in people and even weddings! Doing the Whippet National was a HUGE add to my list! All of these things have really shaped my mind as to finding out my love. I really LOVE portraits. I have come to the conclusion all my energy is going to be focused into making myself the best fine portrait artist in the southeast. My style is emerging and becoming recognizable. I want to refine that and expand on it.

I plan to become certified by the PPA by next year and then work on my Masters of Photography from the PPA. This is a fairly involved process and one that does not happen overnight. The benefits are huge though, it will bring all my skills to the top, keep the fundamentals as the basis and the bring it up a notch all the time with new skills and techniques.

Here are some images from some recent shoots. I have a father and son shoot I have not finished working on yet. Too many irons in the fire and too few hours in the day :)

Last post on the Whippet National!

I have lived, breathed and slept with whippets now since the 5th of April. I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have used all my server space up on my website, and I have redone my galleries a million times trying to get them perfect. Well, I think they are about as close as they are going to get. I am about to pull down the one big one and have 3 smaller ones that each encompass two days of the national. It should make load times and finding your dog a little better.

Since I am finally done with proofs and getting photos out to magazines, I had a few minutes to quickly snag a few photos from each day and make some slideshows. I hope it brings back great memories for those who were there and gives a feeling of having been there, to those who were not.

Now, on to making sure all the orders are on their way :)

2009 American Whippet Club Nationals.....

Yes, I am still working on photos. I promise, I am working on them from the time I get the kids off to school until I go to bed at night. Between Randy and I we had around 25 THOUSAND photos. I am not being silly or exaggerating. As I have written before, to bring the best quality, I am deleted bad photos(blurry, wrong timing, whatever) and trying to crop a few here and there.

Due to the sheer number of photos, I am breaking my own cardinal rule of not showing unfinshed photos. Please look at the photo knowing it probably has not been touched and that it can be cropped, or color corrected(if incorrect) Use your imagination of what it will look like after it is purchased. I hate to do that, as it is not the 'right' way. I know everyone is anxious to see them though.

If you have an ad deadline, please please let me know. I am working with a few magazines that have immediate print deadlines and if you want something for a print ad, I will do my best to help!

Do not forget to enter your code "Whippet" into the coupon box and validate it. Do this before you check out. Enter it and click "Validate" It will take the 15% off. It will not take off the early discount without doing this.

I have had a lot of questions on how to order photos for the flipbook. Click on the size flipbook you would like and then use "image selector" to choose the photos for it. I know it is sorta confusing, but, that is the best way I could figure to make it work. I am always here to help.

I hope to have alllll the photos up by tomorrow at the latest. No promises, but, I will let you all know. I have also extended the 15% discount until May 5th. Just to help out a little. It really makes a difference when ordering!

There are going to be some mistakes on the categories of photos. Especially the non regular classes. I am pretty sure I have the stud dog/extended generation waaaaay messed up. Just look through the classes if you have problems finding your dog. I am doing my best, but, unfortunately I am not infallible :)

Back to work and here are a few candids

Whippet National 2009!

Its has come and gone in a flash! The most beautiful and talented whippets in the country from agility, lure coursing, obedience, racing and conformation were at the Atlanta Hilton. It was non stop fun and action, including a whippet costume contest and "whippet idol" which, was awesome.

I had a wonderful time, though I wish I had more time to sit and talk with everyone. I was amazed at how much there was to photograph and the scope of the National. I have to give a HUGE thanks to Randy Sartin who came all the way from Knoxville to help me out Thursday-Saturday. He is a talented photographer and a great friend. Many of the candids from those days will have been done by him. He brought a fresh artistic view to candids and for that(and his help) I am truly thankful.

Thank you also to Jan Swayze Curry for all her help. Her vision, flowers and props made the win photos truly special. She was everywhere at once making sure that people had help when needed. I know she helped me out. Especially when she pointed out ferns do not go with palm trees :)

I feel like I am accepting an award at the Oscars or something with all my thanking, but, I really feel like so many people need to be recognized for their extremely hard work that went into putting this event together. David Howton for being a great show chair and Cindy Scott, the president of the AWC for being everywhere at once. The staff of the Hilton were wonderful also addressing problems and making arrangements for all of us whippet people.

Anyhow, the good part. The big winners! Photos will be coming up throughout the week so keep checking my proof site http://JuliePoole.com/proofs and look for the day and class your whippet was in. I did my best to capture each whippet entered, and I hope you can find many you cannot live without!!

Before I run off to Atlanta....

And immerse myself in nothing but whippets, I wanted to remind everyone not to forget about the upcoming Mother's day special. AKA don't forget about the special women in your life!!

Chanda and Laurie were so kind to take time out of their busy schedule and have Shanna Hinchey Norris do their hair and make up and myself take photos of them. We had a ball, I played dress up with poor Laurie and Chanda was in and out as quick as we could get her due to her children needing her at home.

Here are a few of the photos that we did.

Here is the wonderful make up artist herself! Shanna!
